From the desire to stimulate the children's appetite,
Jolanda has created dishes in the shape of cute animals to famous portrait
paintings.
A graphic designer from Koersel, Belgium, Jolanda
Stokkermans is now a food designer, nicknamed De Meal Prepper. She said she
started making these meals two years ago. At first, she wanted to look at the
ways of presenting food online. However, she could not find a suitable photo
store, so she decided to unleash her creativity.
"I didn't want to create a boring plate of food, so I tried to be a little creative," says Jolanda.
Before long, the mother-of-two became an artist on
plates. She has created from cute animals, to wild animals and even simulated
famous portraits.
Jolanda says she often comes up with ideas in her head,
then looks for more inspiration from ingredients in the fridge. "Sometimes
when I see a particular vegetable or pasta, an idea pops into my head,"
she says.
The Belgian mother's dishes are completely safe for
health, using vegetables, ketchup, natural food coloring, soy sauce or spices
to color the dishes.
At first the mother just wanted to do this for her two
children. But when encouraged by her children, she began sharing artistic food
dishes on her website and Instagram page. Currently, her page has more than
23,000 followers.
Each piece of art takes two to four hours to complete,
and everything on the plate is edible. Among hundreds of works, Jolanda said
she likes to be a lion, unicorn, zebra or white tiger. "Like painting and
sculpture, the process of making a plate of food is very relaxing," she
said.
Jolanda now offers live and online workshops for both adults and children, to share the joys of culinary arts.
