How to wash hands to avoid dry skin?

Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ministry of Health always encourage people to wash their hands often to prevent the risk of infection. However, washing hands too much also causes the skin of the hands to become dry, scaly, imbalanced in moisture and pH of the skin, thickened, flaky... This condition is more common in similar climates dry or in people with atopic dermatitis.

To improve the above situation, you should wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Wash your hands with warm water instead of very hot or cold water. Water that is too hot or too cold will damage the skin barrier, losing the moisture balance of the skin.

Should use soap with moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin, lanolin... Avoid soaps with many fragrances that will increase the risk of skin irritation or soap bars with a high pH, causing an imbalance in the pH of the skin.

When washing your hands, take adequate and gentle steps, even if you are in a hurry, to avoid rubbing and damaging your skin. The necessary times for hand washing are immediately after returning home; after coughing, sneezing; after handling, grasping, or coming into contact with potentially hazardous items such as elevator control panels, door handles, stair handrails, handrails...; after going to the toilet; after cleaning children and sick people; before eating; before and after food preparation and when hands are dirty.

If soap and clean water are not available, use hand sanitizer or medical alcohol solution containing at least 60% alcohol to disinfect hands but do not abuse. Choose a type with a clear origin.

After washing your hands, you should apply extra moisturizer to the skin to restore the skin barrier, provide a protective layer, increase the water content of the epidermis, and soothe the skin. Moisturizer should also be applied after every shower, bath, before bed, and whenever your skin feels dry.
